Better Business Bureau Announces 2011-2012 BBB Student of Integrity Video Scholarship

Tyler, TX – October 18, 2011 – The Better Business Bureau Education Foundation of Central East Texas is proud to announce the Student of Integrity Video Scholarship program. This program recognizes three college-bound seniors who personify high ethics as demonstrated through their creative talents in creation of a 30 to 60 second video, as well as their overall personal integrity and academic history.

“We have developed the Student of Integrity Scholarship as a way to focus on ethics with young adults who are on the cusp of their careers, planning their post secondary education and focusing on future goals,” said Mechele Agbayani Mills, President and CEO of BBB Serving Central East Texas “Ethics and integrity will shape their professional and personal experiences throughout their lives, and it is our hope that this award will encourage interested students to consider and articulate their commitment to high ethical behavior.”

The Student Ethics Award is available to any student who resides and attends the twelfth (12) grade within the nineteen (19) county region served by BBB of Central East Texas. The students will submit a video essay on one or all of the BBB Standards for Trust (Honor Promises, Embody Integrity, Safeguard Privacy, Advertise Honestly, Tell the Truth, Be Responsive, Be Transparent, and Build Trust). The applications must also include letters of recommendation and the student’s high school transcript. Residents in East Texas will be given the opportunity to vote for their favorite video. Videos must be no longer than 60 seconds in length. The top twenty (20) videos will then be judged by a panel of BBB Board Members and Community Leaders.

The first place winner will be awarded a $3,000 textbook scholarship to an accredited college or university. Second place will be awarded $2,000, and third place will be awarded $1,000.

The recipients of the 2011-2012 Student of Integrity Scholarship will be honored at the BBB Centennial Celebration and Awards Ceremony on Thursday, February 9, 2012. The BBB Foundation accepts donations year-round for the scholarships. To make a donation, please call (903) 581-5888.
